Your Fort

When we were kids we had an area of bush at the end of our road.  This stretched as far as the Umhlatuza river about five miles away.  This was a great place to go and play.  We did everything from swimming in the river, collecting snakes and making go-carts in that bush.

We would go with our bicycles a pellet guns some food - we were made for the day of fun.   Invariably we would split into teams and fight each other using sand clods and Kleilat (A blob of clay on the end of a stick  - with a flick of the wrist the clay would be projected at the “enemy”.)

Each team would have a fort.  You would protect your fort and your fort was your safe place.  It was your safe hiding place.  This is so true of our everyday lives.  We all naturally need a safe hiding place for when we face the difficulties of life.

David the writer of most of the Psalms was no different, he looked for a safe place.  His safe place was found in God.

“keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.”  (Psalm 17:8)

We know from the Old Testament story that David lived under constant threat.  Saul wanted to kill him and then his own son waged war against him.  Despite all that David faced he still displayed an amazing confidence in God

 "I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;

turn your ear to me and hear my prayer." (Psalm 17:6)

In spite of those threats, he was convinced his true safety was found in Him.

We can know that same confidence. The God who promises to never leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5) is the One we trust with our lives every day. Although we live in a dangerous world, our God gives us peace and assurance—both now and forever. He is our safe place

What are you facing today – can we encourage you – GOD IS YOUR SHIELD!  HE IS YOUR FORT!  Hide in Him!  He is faithful.  David never doubted God’s faithfulness.
