Bless People

"Whenever you enter a city or village, search for a worthy person and stay in his home until you leave town. When you enter the home, give it your blessing. If it turns out to be a worthy home, let your blessing stand; if it is not, take back the blessing. If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave. I tell you the truth, the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off than such a town on the judgment day." Matthew 10:11-15 (NLT)

Jesus had a different approach to impacting peoples lives.  He directed his disciples to bless people.  He said they should find a home that would be welcoming and to stay there.  If we reflect on the call of Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3 we see God’s original intention was that the people of God are blessed to be a blessing.
God promised to bless Abraham and his descendants so that in turn they would bless the other nations and people who needed to know God. Genesis 12:3 says, “I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you."

God’s plan is for you to be blessed, but we must remember that his plan does not stop with you.  You are blessed to be a blessing.  We are all to be a blessing to the nations.  This is quite different from some of the hateful and judgemental actions that we see expressed in some parts of the church today.

In a world that has become “me” centred It is easy to accept the idea of us being blessed by God, most people would have no objection to that idea. But when it comes to the idea of our becoming a blessing to others, we easily propose excuses why it should not apply in this or that circumstance.  Today, I want to encourage you to bless those around you, Love those who are hard to love.  Care for those who are unlovable!  Be a blessing!
